‘Elemental Balance’ by Nicholas Peters [single].

About this single: The four bowls heard in this recording are all antique Manipuri Himalayan singing bowls. Owing to their shallow profile and gently outward-leaning walls, Manipuri singing bowls produce a gentle and calming sound, ideal for relaxation and meditation. The bowl in the artwork is one of the four Manipuri bowls heard in the track. This bowl resonates at 197 Hz (approximately a G3). It has rough-textured outer walls and a smooth interior.

About this single: The three tracks on this release were recorded on a very rare and ethically-sourced antique handmade Himalayan mountain shaman bowl. The bowl produces variations in sound frequencies (pitches) depending on whereabouts on the rim it is struck. Its bell-like sound is timeless, deeply meditative, and spiritual. Owing to its history, this bowl would have been used for shamanic rituals and divination ceremonies. Track 3 combines the beautiful, meditative sound of this shamanic mountain bowl with the relaxing and calming sound of a stream by the River Bollin recorded in Hale, Cheshire.

About this EP: The four tracks on this release were recorded in July 2023 in one session during a heavy rain shower. The recordings of the singing bowls were made underneath a skylight window. Two condenser microphones were directed at the window to capture the sound of the heavy rain in stereo, and a pair of matched omnidirectional condenser microphones were directed at the singing bowls. The end result is an immersive and unique set of four recordings, ideal for relaxation, meditation, or even for falling asleep to. The antique bowls that were used in this EP are four Jambati bowls, a Mani bowl, and a Dolpo tantric bowl.

Frankenstein by Nicholas Peters (2023) [Album]. Artwork photography by Alex Hesketh, featuring Rhys Nuttall.

Release date: 13th October 2023

Number of tracks: 63

Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes

The music on this album was composed for a production of Nick Dear’s Frankenstein at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse in January 2022. The production was directed by OSCAR and BAFTA-nominated animator/director Barry J C Purves, and starred Rhys Nuttall as The Creature. In June 2024, this soundtrack was used again by the Congleton Players in their production of the same name, directed by Robin Jackson; a production which went on to win multiple awards, including the NODA Award for Best Drama in the North West 2024.

In 2025, Nicholas Peters was commissioned by the Congleton Players to compose another score, this time for the brand new play, Frankenstein: The Fire and the Silence, written and directed by Robin Jackson. Set in the Arctic wilderness, Frankenstein: The Fire and the Silence reimagines Mary Shelley’s last chapter. In January 2026, Nicholas Peters completed the full score, with over 3 hours of new music written especially for this show, including a cinematic immersive pre-show. The world premiere performances of Frankenstein: The Fire and the Silence take place between 3rd February and 7th February 2026 at the Daneside Theatre in Congleton.
