Guest Lectures and Workshops

Need a guest presenter at your next group event?

I always welcome the opportunity to present guest lectures and workshops outside of the Higher Education (HE) setting.

Committed to spreading the joy of music to all, I have presented numerous 2-hour guest lectures to the Coventry Music Appreciation Group (made up of retired senior citizens). I have presented guest lectures on a wide range of music-related topics, from analyses of classic concert favourites, through to the use of music in the moving image, musical satire, the development of electronic music, and classes on music spirituality. The titles of some of the guest lectures I have presented for the group include:

The Music and Sound of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop
Out of this World: The Theremin and Music in Science Fiction Films
George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue
Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor
Encounters with Another Reality: The Role of Music in Shamanic Practices
Spiritual Experiences in Music
Nada Brahma: All Roads Lead to Om
The Satirical Songs of Tom Lehrer
An Introduction to the Music of La Monte Young and Terry Riley
Introducing the High Priestess of Soul… Dr. Nina Simone!

If you would like me to present a guest lecture or a workshop at your event (e.g. for a music appreciation class, or for a U3A meeting), please complete the form on the Contact Page, giving an overview of your requirements such as the group/class size, topics of interest, and preferred method of delivery (lecture/lecture-workshop/workshop). *Please note that during the current COVID-19 pandemic, I am only available to teach online*.
