I was on the panel for a discussion entitled ‘[Coventry University] Staff who have completed and/or who are on their doctorate journey’.

May 2018

CU Music Student Research Symposium (Ellen Terry Building, Coventry University)

I presented a 10-minute paper entitled Golden Sunset, Blue Rain: Visualising my Spiritual Musicking. I discussed the ways in which my practice-based research was documented using sonogram videos and other visual media.

November 2016

INTIME Symposium (ICE Building, Coventry University)

I performed a live 20-minute version of my ongoing work Golden Sunset, Blue Rain. This practice-based research explored the use of music and sound in shamanic practices and formed the central musical work of my (now completed) PhD research. This version of the work incorporated the use of melodicas and field recordings, alongside tin whistles, voices and digital signal processing.

October 2015

INTIME Symposium (Ellen Terry Building, Coventry University)

I presented a 12-minute music work and an accompanying 10-minute paper, both entitled Golden Sunset, Blue Rain. This practice-based research explored the use of music and sound in shamanic practices and formed the central musical work of my (now completed) PhD.

October 2014

INTIME Symposium (Ellen Terry Building, Coventry University)

I presented a 12-minute music arrangement and an accompanying 10-minute paper, both entitled Journey Deep, Deep River. This practice-based research explored the creative use of extreme audio time stretching, using the gospel spiritual ‘Deep River’ as its basis.

October 2013

INTIME Symposium (Ellen Terry Building, Coventry University)

Sin-Plexus – I performed a live feedback piece with Daren Pickles and Nik Clifford as Alter Flux. [Nicholas Peters – Laptop performer]

June 2013

SSSP Conference (PACE Building, De Montfort University, Leicester)

Sin-Plexus – a live 12-minute feedback performance piece created with Daren Pickles and Nik Clifford as Alter Flux. [Nicholas Peters – Laptop performer]

October 2012

INTIME Symposium (Techno Centre Café, Coventry University)

Music for Cafés – a live 45-minute feedback performance piece created with Daren Pickles as Alter Flux. In this piece, Daren and I sampled the conference delegates eating their buffet lunch and processed the live audio signal using Ableton Live to create a continuously evolving soundscape. [Nicholas Peters – Laptop performer]

May 2012

NoiseFloor Festival (Staffordshire University, Stafford)

Shoe Test – devised by Adrian Palka (for steel cello, speaking voice and digital signal processing). In this piece, I live sampled Adrian reading excerpts from a Soviet war diary. I layered Adrian’s voice using multiple delay systems in Ableton Live software to create a kaleidoscope of voices that echoed around the performance space. [Nicholas Peters – Laptop performer]
